What the tool does not hide
PNG and JPG solve different problems.
PNG is lossless and can preserve transparency. JPG is lossy and has no alpha channel, so transparent pixels are composited onto your chosen background before encoding.
Keep PNG for logos, interface graphics, line art, text, or anything that must stay transparent. JPG is usually the better delivery copy for photographs and destinations that require JPEG.
