Decide whether JPEG is appropriate
Use JPEG for photographs and other continuous-tone images where broad compatibility and smaller files matter. Keep PNG for logos, diagrams, screenshots with small text, and any image that must retain transparency or mathematically exact pixels.
JPEG cannot store an alpha channel. Before converting a transparent PNG, choose the intended background instead of accepting an accidental black or inconsistent edge. A white background is common for marketplaces and documents; a sampled brand color may be better for a website asset.
Choose quality and dimensions before the batch
Start around JPEG quality 82 with optimization enabled, then inspect hair, foliage, gradients, and high-contrast edges in the original/result comparison. Raise quality when artifacts are visible; reduce it only when file size matters more than fine texture.
Resize oversized sources before applying stronger compression. A 5000-pixel PNG used in a 1600-pixel web slot wastes more bytes than a correctly sized JPEG at a sensible quality setting. Enable Never enlarge so smaller graphics are not softened.
Convert the whole folder without losing organization
Add the top-level folder recursively and preserve its subfolder structure. Select a separate destination, then open Output Plan to confirm every path and collision decision before conversion begins.

Verify color, metadata, and output
Preserve the ICC profile when color consistency matters. Choose whether to preserve metadata, remove GPS only, keep capture dates, or remove metadata entirely. The privacy choice should be deliberate rather than an unnoticed side effect of conversion.
After the batch, inspect a few JPEG files in the destination application and retain the JSON, CSV, or text report. The report records the source, output, size, duration, and any failure while the original PNG files remain untouched.
